1. Structural (carbon) steels
Structural (carbon) steels are used for the construction of various structures (cranes, carriers), in construction (bridges), in the machinery industry (vehicle parts, ship structures, machinery parts), oil industry and the like. These steels are applied in the raw state (without thermal treatment).
2. Improvement steel
The improvement steel can be carbon (unalloyed) and low-alloyed, which by the heat treatment process (hardening and releasing) achieves the appropriate toughness properties, but also the required toughness. These steels are most commonly used in the machinery industry (shaft and shaft production), auto industry, dedicated industry, shipbuilding, metal processing (making screws, wedges, lugs, etc.).
3. Cement steel
The cement steel represents a group of steel, which, after processing, separates the particles from the outer surface. After hardening the outer layer, tempering is carried out in order to achieve high resistance of the outer layer to wear, and increased toughness of the non-core. The pre-fat cementation cells generally contain 0.1-0.2% C, and after annealing, the outer layer contains 0.8-0.9% C. The process of grooming is called cementation. These steels are used in the machinery industry (making gears of other gears), the dedicated industry (manufacture of weapons), shipbuilding, metalworking, etc.
4. Steels for automatic machines
The automatic steels are intended for the production of parts on high-performance automatic machines. Their basic characteristic is better workability compared to other steels. The ability to process these steels is achieved by means of an altered chemical composition which facilitates the formation of inclusions, which enable the formation of brittle and short shavings.
5. Tool steels
Alatni čelici su plemeniti ugljenični ili legirani čelici sa udjelom ugljika od 0,6 % do 2,06 % ili legirani (uglavnom sa Cr, W, V, Mo, Co), a koristi se za izradu alata. Osnovna svojstva koja alatni čelici moraju posjedovati su otpornost na trošenje i visoka udarna izdržljivost. Proizvodni (ekonomski) zahtjevi i svojstva prema alatnim čelicima su: mogućnost obrade alata odvajanjem čestica, visoka zakaljivost, visoka prokaljivost, neznatna promjena dimenzija tokom rada, mogućnost obrade, otpornost na koroziju, mogućnost poliranja, ekonomičnost itd.
